There are basically 7 Body language signs to be aware of…
Here are some facts: Communication is only 10% verbal.
The tone of the voice goes for 30% and your actions 60%.
This is something that can be very helpful while you are trying to get someone interested in your business, your products or services
Your Body Language as well as the one of your prospect, can tell a lot about both of you.
That`s why it is important to be able to adjust your behavior and to be able to read the one of the person in front of you.
1)The eyes
When you engage in a conversation, you have to look into the person`s eyes. This shows respect, sincerity and trust. Not doing so could mean for your prospect the opposite: lack of sincerity, fear, lack of interest, lack of confidence,or something you want to hide.
It is most important to maintain eye contact and to seem genuine, that`s imperative while attempting to close a sale.
On the other hand, if your prospect try to avoid your eyes,it could mean that either you are intimidating him or that he is not interested at all by what you have to say.
In that case ,try to put him at ease, change the subject of your conversation, offer him something to eat or drink, and try to find a common interest.
You can come back to business later.
2)Your body language
The way you move your arms can reveal a lot. Use grand gesture when you explain something with emotion and keep your arms to your side during intense moments.
Whatever you do, never cross your arms. This could mean that you are on a defensive position or that you are either angry or indifferent.
If your prospect crosses his arms,he is most likely telling you that he is not receptive to something you said.
The best way to react is to re-focus the conversation on them, on their problem or concerns.
Get them to verbalize how they feel about what you have just said. And don`t talk too much. Let them do the talking.
The Silence is Gold, don`t forget. The best closers are the one who don`t talk much, they ask questions.
3)Your head
If your head is on a steady position this is a sign of confidence and people will be more inclined to listen to you.On the other hand ,tilting your head is a good sigh also. It shows that you are receptive and open to listen.
4)Your position
We often are not aware of that , but we usualy face people we like or are attracted to, and we get on an angle with the one we don`t like. So face your prospects while taking to them, you can even tilt and lean towards them a little to show that you are interested.
It goes the same for a prospect. If he faces you and leans towards you, that means that he is interested in what you have to say.
5)Too close or not enough?
Don`t allow too much distance between you and your prospect. If you have to raise your voice to be heard, you are too far apart. This put an emotional distance between you.
On the other hand if you are too close, your prospect might feel uncomfortable and he will pull back from you. You may be intruding in his personal space and you then should back off a little.
6)Good handshakes
There is nothing worse than shaking hands with someone that is cold and clammy. This reveal usually that the person is nervous and unsure of herself. A firm grip shows that you are confident, friendly and trustworthy.
Don`t forget the hand language. When your hands are palms up ,it means that you are an open person and that you are friendly. On the opposite,if you have palms down,it convey dominance and even aggressivity.
7)Be aware of your legs
If you legs are twitching,if you are restless this will show the person in front of you that you are nervous, unsure if yourself and stressed out.
And same as the arms, you never cross your legs. This makes you appear: arrogant ,close-minded or on the defensive.
If your prospect does it himself,(since you know the meaning), try to be friendly, non threatening and engage in a casual conversation until you can see them getting more relaxed.
Bottom line, people like to be liked. If the person in front of you sees that you are genuine, you care about her and your body shows it too, they will react to you the same way.
They will be more open, more relaxed and your interaction will be positive and profitable.
Sincerely,
Giselle
